Dear Benjamin,
Look at how darn cute you are! That little face has gotten you out of lots of trouble this last year… because you know how to get into lots of trouble. You are the spunkiest, most energetic firecracker baby I’ve ever raised. 😉 And I wouldn’t change a thing. Because for as spunky as you can be, you are equally as sweet. You give the best kisses, love to cuddle in next to us, and really do have the most tender heart. You make everyone smile with your playful personality. You bring so much JOY!
You are a climber. You are often found climbing chairs, tables, the piano, the window sills, couches… I remember one evening it was particularly warm in the house. When I walked over to the thermostat, I realized you had climbed to the top of the couch and figured out how to turn it up yourself!
You love your brother. So much. When he is at school, sometimes you walk around the house calling his name. “Saaaaaamm?” It’s the best sound. You climb into his bed every night when we settle down to read books before sleep and snuggle up right next to him. Over this last year, the two of you usually drink your milk leaning on each other while you watch those morning cartoons when you first wake up. It melts my heart like you would not believe. You also like to wrestle with your brother… and somehow, you can usually take him down!
You are so goofy. You make us all laugh all the time. Somehow, you believe that you are the house comedian. Most nights, Sam can’t stop laughing at you, especially when we sit at the dinner table and you do something on purpose to get him giggling. You make the goofiest faces and know just how to get yourself out of trouble when you need to with them. You also know a knock knock joke and are sure to perform it at least a few times a week. You say “knock knock- who’s there- interrupting cow- interrupting cow who- MOOOOOOOOO!!” Its the best!
You are smart! Although your speech took a bit of time to come in, once you got your second set up ear tubes, your constant jibber jabber started to grow more and more clear. We knew how frustrated you were not being able to express yourself the way you wanted to when you couldn’t hear well. But now, you are talking more and more every day. You know your colors, can sing that ABC song and can even count to 5 on your fingers! My favorite things that you say – “I need two more minutes”, “You stop that”, and of course, “Love you mommy”. Your little voice totally turns me to mommy mush.
There are so many other fun things about this stage of life you are in my boy. You love to color, especially with markers. You like coloring on your skin way more than the paper. You are starting to get into legos as you watch your big brother build things. You love to read and bring books to us all the time to do with you. I can’t be in the kitchen without you pushing over a kitchen chair because you always want to “help” and touch everything on the counter. Cooking with you around isn’t easy these days. 😉 You love music and will sit and watch music videos on my phone in complete awe. You also love to sit at the piano with me. You could play and sing for hours and get mad when I stop. Your favorite toy is the real mini guitar and microphone stand you got for Christmas and you love to jam out! I’m kind of amazed at the way you hold and strum your guitar to the beat of the music already and am pretty sure you will be a very talented musician one day. Maybe you will take after your mom and dad. That would be really special.
We have had our share of medical adventures this year. It hasn’t always been easy, but it’s so clear to see that God has kept you in His hands through it. I know that He has really special plans for your life. Every night, when you are tucked into bed, we spend a few minutes praying. First me or dad, and then you say, “My turn”. You have the sweetest two-year-old prayers I have ever heard. Although we rarely know what in the world you are saying, I do always understand the long list of specific people that you pray for. Even at two, you have a tender heart for others. You are such a special little guy. I can’t wait to see what talents and characteristics God grows in you. Our prayer is that you would always use them to help others and bring God glory with whatever you do in this life sweet boy!
Now comes my favorite picture… the one where we see how much you have grown by that big red door! Eeeeeep!! 🙂
We are so, so crazy about you little boy! You are so special to us!
Love, Mom
