Kara and Mike, two Cornell graduates, married last month on a brisk and gorgeous fall day. The morning started off at Kara’s family home in Newport and ended at the always stunning Ocean Cliff. These two were so kind and sweet to work with! Here is what Kara and Mike had to say about their big day!
Q- What was your inspiration behind your wedding? A- Kara said, “We wanted a classic, classy wedding. Our church is big- I knew I wanted a dress with a little oomph, since the church would certainly handle it. Hence the veil and the train. Black tie was one of the first decisions we made. And looking back it really elevated the party to have so much sparkle and men in tuxes. We knew with beautiful settings we could let them speak for themselves- add candles, flowers, and people.” Q- Would you change anything if you could? A- We would have had our rings engraved- at the time it seemed like one more unnecessary thing on the to do list, but almost immediately afterwards we wished we had taken the time to do it. Perhaps on our one year anniversary!
Q– What detail did you love or treasure the most about your wedding? A- Kara said, “My grandma’s fur, and the fact that my mom remembered my grandpa buying it for her! And getting ready at our family home. And the Cornell flag! It remains a mystery who was the mastermind behind it all. Mike said- “The Cornell Flag!”
…The Cornell clan was super excited!
Q- What advice would you offer to our future brides and grooms? A- In the end it is about you- your vision, your commitment. You don’t have to do anything just because Instagram shows other people doing it. Mike didn’t want a first look, and while most people do them, we didn’t. And as a result it all felt true to us as a couple. I also think some of the best advice is a piece we got from friends attending our wedding- think of yourselves as glued together. Its easy in a room full of people you love to want to chat with everyone and easy to get separated because everyone wants to talk to you, but we tried to stick together as we did it, so that we would spend that day together as much as possible.
