Alex and Gabe married at the stunning Glen Manor House in Portsmouth RI last month. Above all of the gorgeous whimsey and vintage details, the most beautiful thing I took note of was how Alex and Gabe were so considerate and sweet to each other throughout the day. They truly celebrated together, danced with each other, held hands with each other. And boy could they dance! Tiffany and I really enjoyed our evening with this crew. Read on to hear what Alex and Gabe had to say about their big day. So many favorites to share!
Q-What was your inspiration behind your wedding? What motivated you and most influenced your decisions?
A- When I first started looking at photos to find inspiration of what I liked, I was drawn to beautiful antique chairs in gardens. They just bring out this whimsical feeling of romance from the past. When I visited our venue, Glen Manor House, for the first time, it was like those pictures came to life in front of me. I really wanted to bring a whimsical, soft, slightly vintage feeling to our day, tying together the old traditions of love and marriage (blusher veils, traditional wedding vows), with some quirky details we loved (bagpiper for our alma mater and polka dot bow ties).
Q- What detail did you love or treasure the most about your wedding?
Gabe’s favorite thing was that the guys all had custom made suits with quirky, personal embroidery. Inside the best man’s blazer said “Don’t do it!”, while Gabe’s shirt cuff had his hometown’s area code “412”.
Alex’s favorite detail was the song chosen for the wedding party (and bride) to walk down the aisle. We chose “Book of Love” by Peter Gabriel. A lot of our friends and family didn’t like it, but we love the lyrics of the song, referencing the old traditions of love, while weaving in some levity like “The book of love is long and boring”. We decided on the song about 9 months or so before the wedding, and we’d listen to it in our kitchen, dancing.
Q- What advice would you offer to our future brides and grooms?
Gabe: Enjoy it, it goes fast!
Alex: There are definitely times during planning when you wonder why you’re doing all this…It is a LOT of work! But, at the end of that day, seeing everyone’s smiling faces, it’s all worth it. Try to remember that piece when it gets hard!
Q- If you could pick one moment from your entire day to be your favorite, what would it be?
A- During the very last song of the night (Hey Ya), I looked up, and saw a packed dance floor, with tons of smiling faces. At that moment, I got emotional and felt all the crazy planning was worth it. The people I love most in the world were having a ton of fun, and didn’t want the night to end. Mission accomplished!
